UNP.NL Executive Members Represent Nigeria at Keti Koti Slavery Abolishment Ceremony

On June 30, 2025, the executive members of UNP.NL (United Nigerian Platform in the Netherlands) proudly represented Nigeria during the *Bloemenceremonie Loydkade*, a solemn and symbolic event held as part of the *Keti Koti Festival* in Rotterdam. This annual ceremony commemorates the abolition of slavery in the Dutch colonies and honours the memory of those who suffered under slavery.

The event began at 17:45 at the Maaspodium and featured a poignant flower-laying ritual by the waterfront. In a powerful moment of remembrance and solidarity, a UNP.NL representative was seen holding the Nigerian flag while placing flowers into the water—symbolizing both mourning and hope for a future rooted in justice and unity.

The ceremony was supported by local institutions including the *Gemeente Rotterdam* *Rotterdam Festivals* *STC*, and *Maas Podium*, reflecting the city’s commitment to acknowledging its historical ties to slavery and promoting cultural inclusivity.

By participating in this event, UNP.NL not only honoured the legacy of enslaved Africans but also reinforced the importance of Nigerian voices in the ongoing dialogue about history, healing, and human rights.
